Dead Cells is set to launch on several platforms this week, and now the ESRB has revealed their rating description for the game. The game received a T (for Teen) rating, with the major descriptors being Blood and Gore, Language and Violence.
The following is the complete ESRB description for Dead Cells:
“This is an action-platformer in which players control a reanimated corpse trying to escape an island prison. From a side-scrolling perspective, players explore platform environments while engaging in frenetic melee-style combat against fantastical creatures (e.g., skeletons, giant leeches, goblins). Players use punches, kicks, and gadgets (e.g., flame-thrower traps, grenades, arrow turrets) to kill enemies. Enemies emit large splatters of blood when injured/killed and sometimes break apart into bloody pieces; blood also stains the floors and walls of some areas. The word “sh*t” appears in the game.”
The game is described as being a “roguevania,” meaning it’s a combination of procedurally-generated roguelike games and exploration-based metroidvania games. Players control a character referred to as the Prisoner, with the idea being to escape the island he’s being held on. Every time the Prisoner dies, the island reconfigures itself.
Dead Cells is in development by Motion Twin and is being published by Merge Games. The game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on August 7th.
