Now that the story expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn (The Frozen Wilds) has been released, gamers who don’t own a PS4 are once again curious if the game will ever come to their preferred platform. PC and Xbox One players would love to be able to control Aloy as she battles robot dinosaurs, but it unfortunately doesn’t look like that will be happening.
The reason for this is that Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games is owned by Sony, meaning that their job is to develop games exclusively for PlayStation consoles. That is what they had been doing for many years with the Killzone series, and is what they will likely be doing for many more years with the Horizon series. They are what is called a first-party developer, which is something that isn’t uncommon in this industry as both Microsoft and Nintendo do the same thing.
While this results in creating console fanboys due to the fact that they don’t own a particular console that has certain games that they want to play, ultimately it’s a model that works. If we didn’t have exclusives then they’re wouldn’t be much of a point of owning anything other than a PC. Some would like that, but I personally love having different platforms that offer different experience.
Horizon Zero Dawn is available now exclusively for PlayStation 4. We can’t ever rule out the game coming to other platforms indefinitely seeing as anything is possible, but it definitely won’t be happening anytime soon.
