Shenmue 3 was originally supposed to launch by the end of this year, but recently creator Yu Suzuki revealed that the game has been pushed back into 2018. This wasn’t the biggest surprise considering the complete lack of meaningful updates on the game, but that drought will be coming to an end soon.
Suzuki revealed in a new Kickstarter update that the team will be attending Gamescom 2017 in Germany, which will take place in the middle of August. He said that “While we are still working out the details with our partners, we plan to show our newest movie clips, share the latest updates and even make some new announcements.” It remains to be seen what we actually see during the event, but it would be great if we could get a solid release date (or window) for the game.
Elsewhere in the update they showed off some new characters in the game, and they shared some concept art as well as their 3D models. They didn’t actually share any information on who these characters are, but it’s possible that we could be getting more during Gamescom next month. They also updated the game’s title logo after taking feedback from fans, which you can check out by clicking right here.
The team at Ys Net also shared a message to the Kickstarter backers, saying “We would like to express our gratitude for the many comments we received on our previous report. From constructive criticism to kind words of encouragement, we were touched by every single one of your comments. Yu Suzuki and the entire Shenmue III Team are more determined than ever to bring to the Shenmue III that will live up to your expectations.”
Shenmue 3 is set to launch at some point in the second half of 2018 on PlayStation 4 and PC. Hopefully we’ll have more news on the game to share with you during Gamescom next month.
