Titanfall 2 releases on October 28th 2016 along side the Remastered Skyrim. In a recent interview with cnet.com, the developers of Titanfall 2, Respawn have spilled some secrets to the Multiplayer that is building upon the first installment. These things include the return of the Smart Pistol, more pilot weapons, and tighter layouts of the maps.
In the interview they also stated they engineered the engine for Oculus support in the coming months, but still had some tweaks with the pace of the game being too fast and making some employees get motion sickness. “The company shut down for a while and gave us time off, and he spent that time adding Oculus support to our engine. A lot of us got to try putting on the Rift and looking at a Titan.” The team says ejecting out of a Titan wasn’t so fun, though: “It’ll make you hurl!”
The developers responded again in say9ing that every Titan, the now six instead of three, has their own unique gameplay abilities leading to a much less predictable battlefield.
When asked about improving the wall running capabilities: “Oftentimes, players who weren’t hyper-aware, they would try and make a wall run jump to another surface and not quite make it. And not know why, because last time they did it, they made it just fine. So we tried to really normalize a lot of these.”
One thing Respawn wanted to do was to distance itself from the Call of Duty franchise, they wanted Titanfall to seem unique and stand on it’s own. Making a campaign that doesn’t have a COD feel to it was a priority: “It really isn’t your average linear, for lack of a better word, corridor FPS. It’s not like you’re getting pulled through this series of explosions or people yelling at you. There’s going to be very quiet moments where you’re taking in a broad environment and you have to figure out how you’re going to traverse it.”
A new addition to the game is the new grappling hook. While it can hook onto players and pull them closer to you, it has been confirmed that it can be used for traveling as well: “It’s got physics to it, so you can swing around stuff. If you get really good it will actually bend around things. So if there’s a building and a post on that building it will wrap around that post a little bit, change your momentum.”
Titanfall 2 has been in development for multiple years and I expect nothing less than brilliant, smooth gameplay as we saw in the first game. Respawn looks to build upon the already established traversal and movement capabilities from the first game and incorporate them into the second. Titan fall releases on October 28th 2016
