During the 2016 DICE Summit, Hideo Kojima stated that he still plans to work with Guillermo del Toro, who had originally been working on the cancelled Silent Hills game.
We haven’t heard anything really about his next game, but he says it will be ‘big.’ Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro spoke at the Summit, mainly about films, VR, anime and future plans. Kojima spoke about how he has developed and grown a massive fan base, and wants to continue to put out blockbuster games, sooner rather than later.
Kojima recently relaunched his Kojima Productions Studio, along with a YouTube Channel. It certainly looks like Kojima wants to spend more time engaging with fans, and put out consistent content. Now he has parted ways with Konami, I’m sure he will now have all the freedom he wants to produce top quality content.
“At first, I thought I’d take a year to make a small indie game, or a movie, or write a novel. But then I talked with friends and acquaintances from all over the world and pretty much everyone said the same thing… sorry, but you don’t have time for that, you have to go back to working on something big, because that’s what people expect from you.”
Kojima has teamed up with Sony to produce an exclusive game. Kojima talked about having creative freedom to do what he wants with a small team of developers. It seems like he wants to make a game that pleases his fans, but won’t compromise things just to sell more. We don’t know much about the new game from Kojima, apart from it will be heading to PC and PlayStation.
Kojima and Guillermo del Toro also stated that they were open to working together again in the future. No details have been given on what they would work on, but the popularity of the P.T demo would suggest this is highly anticipated. Whatever we get from Kojima will certainly be big news and one to keep your eyes on.
