The MOBA called Smite: Battleground of the Gods has been exclusive to the Xbox One and PC for over a year now, but that is about to change very soon. It was just revealed earlier today that the game will be getting a closed beta next month, with a closed alpha session taking place today that a very limited amount of people will be invited to. You can click right here to take a shot at getting into next month’s closed beta. Here’s a snippet from the announcement: “Created by Hi-Rez Studios in 2013, Smite currently supports a global player community of more than 14 million players, which will grow even larger when the game becomes available on PS4. Smite’s team-based action, third-person controls, and deep roster of playable gods make it an ideal fit for PS4, where it will become the biggest MOBA ever to go from PC to PS4.”
It was also revealed that Smite will continue to be completely free to play, with the devs saying that, “Once the Beta begins, PS4 players will have instant access to all of Smite’s game modes, as well as Smite’s five free gods (Ymir, Thor, Neith, Guan Yu, and Ra) and any gods currently available in the free rotation. Additional gods may be unlocked with Favor or Gems, or via special community events.” The game uses the free-to-play model by allowing you to choose from a cast of characters that are available in rotation, with one character being available to play as for a while before they are removed for the next one. You can pay one full price to have permanent access to all characters or just purchase the characters you like.
Smite on PlayStation 4 will largely be the same game that is available on Xbox One and PC, with only minor things like character skins making it stand apart from the other versions. A final release date for the PlayStation 4 version of the game has not been revealed, though the game will probably spend a good amount of time in beta form first before then. Stay tuned for when the official release date for Smite on PlayStation 4 is revealed.
