Quantum Break, the upcoming and allegedly Xbox One-exclusive third-person action game from Remedy Entertainment, has been rated for PC by the Brazilian ratings board. The ratings, first spied by Gematsu, and which have since been removed from the board’s website, suggest that exclusivity on the title might be timed, much like that of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and mesh with statements by Remedy’s Sam Lake, who said he’d like to see the time-manipulating title on PC.
Quantum Break itself, if you can get over the fact that the plot is about time literally breaking, looks like a promising cinematic third-person shooter, very much in the vein of Remedy’s previous titles, Alan Wake and, especially, Max Payne. They’ve not scrimped on the cast either, with X-Men’s Shaun Ashmore, Game of Thrones’ Aiden Gillain and Lord of the Rings’ Dominic Monaghan playing the three lead characters. Guess who’s the villain! I’ll tell you right now, it’s not a hobbit.
Time manipulation plots always have an element of the ridiculous to them, and while there is certainly a fair degree of of that to Quantum Break, the concept of playing, and perhaps even altering, time as it’s being timey-wimey, is certainly intriguing, and the gunplay looks suitably crunchy (as it should, coming from Remedy). There’s a great opportunity for non-linear story-telling here, that I truly hope the developers will take. I loved Max Payne and, to a lesser extent, Alan Wake, and not owning an Xbox, I’m definitely hopeful that this rating does indeed signal Quantum Break making it’s way to PC, and like Remedy’s other titles, it would feel like a natural fit for the platform. I suppose that tiiiime will tell.
