Toby Fox, the creator and mastermind behind Undertale, has announced that the newest patch to the game is meant to help those who are colorblind. Toby made the announcement earlier today through a Twitter post:
Of course, as many who have already played the game will stress to those who haven’t, it’s best to approach the game without being heavily spoiled, so I will do my part in following suit. What I can share is that a part of the game’s mechanics is avoiding obstacles that are thrown at you within a relatively small area. Some attacks are color coded, meaning certain colored attacks forces you to take certain precautions. One such attack is the “blue attack”, as shown in Toby’s Tweet.
Originally, the color was more of a brighter blue (as shown in the example image below), which can be more difficult to see for those who are colorblind:
This move to create this patch was undoubtedly made in an effort to make this extremely memorable game to be more accessible to those with the vision impairment. The announcement was met with many happy and gracious players replying to him with their thanks, saying that the change helps them make out the attacks much better.
