Call of Duty is set to return later this year with Infinity Ward at the helm, though it looks like they are looking for some new blood to help them out with the game’s singleplayer campaign. The company posted a job listing on their official website that reveals they are looking for a “Game Designer (Scripter – SP).” The description for the position reveals that, “Infinity Ward is looking for a Single-Player Gameplay Designer on some of the best selling and most critically acclaimed shooters of all time.” The responsibilities of the position are to, “Create compelling and immersive gameplay with memorable and impactful moments, Use your technical background for problem solving, systems creation and scripting unique scenarios and Working with a flexible C-style scripting language to realize your designs.”
Infinity Ward’s last shot at a Call of Duty game was 2013’s Ghosts, though the game ended up being one of the most poorly-received games in the entire series’ history. While most agreed that the game wasn’t bad by any means, most said that the game’s story and campaign failed to offer anything new to the series. It’s also worth mentioning that the game was the first of the series’ games to be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which supposedly resulted in some problems in the game’s development. Couple this with the fact that Infinity Ward also had less time to work on Ghosts than previous games in the series and it would lead many to believe that they have a much better shot at delivering a great game this time around.
Last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III received solid reviews, though it also was noted for not doing a whole lot to move the series forward. It took what was switched up with Advanced Warfare and refined it a bit more, with the futuristic tech being tweaked and new classes being added to the game. Despite the fact that the game failed to reinvent the wheel, that didn’t stop the game from being a huge hit with fans. Call of Duty: Black Ops III reportedly sold significantly more than both Advanced Warfare and Ghosts, making it the highest-selling game of 2015.
