Bringing the legend back to life will have to wait; the Metal Gear Online Beta for the PC has been pulled by Konami until further notice.
In a post made on Steam’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain discussion board, a developer announced that the Beta was removed “due to a possible exploit”:
The online Beta for PC users just started last night, but was immediately halted once some suspicious activity was discovered.
The developer doesn’t divulge exactly what the “possible exploit” was in the post, but the problem was rather severe as it was connected with MB coins. This in-game currency is used by players to purchase resources in the game used to expand their base, which can be invaded by other players. MB coins are normally purchased using real money, but the Beta was allowing users to collect them in huge quantities at no cost. This exploit was a huge financial no-no for Konami, and the Beta has been promptly put on hold until the issue is addressed.
Until then, online access to the newest Metal Gear game is still available to console users. For PC users who bought the game through Steam, the main game content is also still available to play.
