Team Fortress 2’s Tough Break update is now live on Steam, bringing with it a host of new free and paid content to the game.
Similar to the game’s Gun Mettle update earlier this year, the Tough Break update is a three-month long event where players can drop $5.99 for access to 26 new contracts. Completion of these new contracts will grant players access to new one-of-a-kind weapons or weapon cases, as well as a chance of winning a unique weapon plus a weekly cosmetic item drop box. Like in the Gun Mettle update, opening these weapon cases and cosmetic item boxes will require a special key that sells for $2.50. The Tough Break update also implements a new ‘Loaner Program’, which allows players to participate in contracts even if they don’t have the required weapon for it.
A number of new purchasable taunts are also available in this update. Rather than explain them all, we’ll let the video below do all the talking.
The update also features four new winter-themed community maps. There’s Snowycoast, a snow-covered factory for the Payload mode; Vanguard, which is a Control Point map with several levels and an elevator shaft; Highpass, a King of the Hill map in the central of a small series of shacks; and Landfall, a Capture the Flag map with a central bridge built around a massive redwood.
In addition to the host of paid and free content, the update provides a number of gameplay changes including lower weapon switching times, and teammates now having an outline around them for 10 seconds after respawning. There’s also a series of balance tweaks and class-specific changes.
