Techland’s actually pretty great zombies-vs-parkour game Dying Light is getting a major expansion next year in the form of ‘The Following’. Set primarily outside the original game’s quarantine zone, The Following is set to include a new playable area as large as the original game’s, new weapons and enemies as well as driveable vehicles.
Plot details have been scant thus far, but with the release of today’s story trailer, Techland have released an official overview:
“The new storyline takes place shortly after the final events of the original game as protagonist Kyle Crane and his group of survivors face both a new threat and new hope for salvation. Hard-pressed by the circumstances, Crane leaves the city walls and travels to a remote region taken over by a mysterious group whose intentions are not readily clear. The rumor of a way out turned out true, but does a potential cure really exist out here or is it all smoke and mirrors?”
The expansion will be available on it’s own or as part of Dying Light’s season pass – it’s worth noting that both of these have had their prices increased by Techland due to the alleged increased scope of the expansion. Dying Light will also be re-released as an Enhanced Edition which will fold The Following’s content into the base game.
Time will tell whether or not the content justifies the change, however the expansion looks fairly meaty at this stage.Dying Light, although a bit of the repetitive side, proved to be one of 2015’s sleeper hits; it’s strong mechanics compensating for it’s derivative setting and plot. If The Following can improve on those areas and successfully implement it’s new elements it could well be worth the price of admission.
The Following will launch on February 9th on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One.
