Ubisoft’s highly anticipated tactical multiplayer FPS, Rainbow Six: Siege, is less than a month away from its release. Ahead of that planned release, set for the 1st of December 2015, Ubisoft is planning to host an open beta weekend, with the goal of fine-tuning its servers and ensuring optimal performance at launch. If you’ve been hoping to get an idea of what the game is like before pre-ordering, the upcoming beta weekend should satisfy that need perfectly.
The beta will be somewhat limited, in the sense that not all maps and not all game modes will be unlocked. This is similar to what we’ve seen in the game’s previous closed beta sessions, and the returning game modes seem to be the same. Players looking to engage in PvP, which is the central core of the game, will be able to do so in the Bomb and Secure Area game modes, while players looking for a cooperative challenge can face off against the AI (which was recently improved) in the Disarm Bomb mode. We’ll be getting access to some new maps though, with Kanal, Hereford and House being unlocked and playable. In addition, players will get to choose from 14 Operators and 5 reserves. Most attackers and defenders are familiar to anyone who had access to previous beta sessions, however, there are some new names that are worth mentioning, such as the SWAT attacker Ash or the SPETSNAZ defender Kapkan.
The beta weekend for Siege will begin on the 25th of November, Wednesday, and will run until the 29th of November, Sunday. In fact, it’s more than just a weekend, so you’ll get plenty of time to try out the game’s features. You’ll also be able to pre-load the game’s beta client on the 23th of November, and all platforms the game will launch on will get access. Rainbow Six: Siege will be playable on the PC via Uplay, and on the PS4 and Xbox. For more information about the upcoming beta event, take a look at Siege’s official website.
Rainbow Six: Siege’s standard edition will cost 59.99 Euros in Europe, with various different versions available, such as the Gold Edition, Art of Siege addition, and the most expensive variant, the Tactical Elite Edition, which will set you back 94.99 Euros and includes a Season Pass and a 120 page-long tactical guide. In addition, Ubisoft has already announced that Siege will include microtransactions, although these will come in the shape of weapon skins and operator unlocks and will not affect gameplay or provide an edge. The operators can be unlocked by playing the game, microtransactions only speeding up the process.
