Niantic has enjoyed incredible success with their Pokemon Go mobile game, which has been going strong for 2 years. However, they now have their sights on another major franchise, being that of the magical world of Harry Potter. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is set to release in 2019, and now the first teaser trailer has been released that you can check out at the bottom of this post.
The trailer is all live action and unfortunately doesn’t reveal any actual gameplay, but some hints can be gleaned from what is shown. The video shows a girl appear in an alley to catch a snitch, and then casts a spell on a wall that leaves a poster reading, “the Wizarding World is at risk of exposure.” It remains to be seen how this will tie into the actual gameplay, but more information on that will likely be coming soon.
We do know that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will function similarly to Pokemon Go, as it is an augmented reality game that has you moving around in the real world. Niantic has said previously that the game will have players exploring the real world to “unravel a global mystery, cast spells, and encounter fantastic beasts and iconic characters along the way.”
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite still does not have an official release date, though it is expected to launch for iOS and Android devices at some point in 2019. Be sure to check out the new teaser trailer for the game below.
