We’ve known for a while now that a new Tomb Raider game is in development, set to be the third and final game in the rebooted trilogy. While developer Crystal Dynamics is planning to make the official reveal this week, it looks like the game’s release date has been figured out a little early.
The release date for Shadow of the Tomb Raider was discovered in the website’s source code, revealing that the game is set to release on September 14th, 2018. This is by no means a confirmation, but considering that this release date is contained within the source code itself, it seems pretty likely that it’s legit. The source code also gives us little tidbit on the game, saying that it will be the “climactic finale of Lara’s origin story.”
Of course, the game is listed for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, which are the same platforms that the previous two games released on. However, what’s interesting to note here is that there is nothing about a timed exclusivity deal as was the case with Rise of the Tomb Raider. That game was first only available on Xbox One, getting a PC release shortly after and then a PS4 release a year following the Xbox One release. It looks like this one will be releasing on all platforms simultaneously, which is good to hear.
Crystal Dynamics has been doing an excellent job with this rebooted Tomb Raider series, with the first game being very solid and the second game improving upon it in every way. They have a lot to live up to with what will be the final game in the trilogy, and we’ll likely be getting some solid information on the game very soon. A reveal of the game is set for March 15th at 6:00 AM PDT, so be sure to check back then for the new details.
