While the PC version of Final Fantasy 15 might be the upcoming version of the game that everyone is talking about, gamers will have a very different way to experience the game next month. That will be in the form of the previously-announced Pocket Edition, which has been in development for mobile devices for some time and finally has a release date.
Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy 15: Pocket Edition will release for iOS and Android devices on February 9th, which means it’s only a little under two weeks away. The game tells the same story that the main game does, but condensed into 10 chapters and featuring a more cartoonish visual style. Of course, the controls have also been tweaked to support touchscreens, meaning that the mechanics at work here are much more streamlined.
As for the file size, the game will take up 785.5 MB of space on iOS devices, with that number likely set to go up a few notches as updates are released. It also requires iOS 10.0 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this one pans out, because the base game is pretty big and it seems like it would be a big task to even release a simplified version of it for mobile devices. Either way, as long as it retains the essence of the base game then it should definitely be worth checking out, seeing as that game ended up being fantastic.
The support for Final Fantasy 15 shows no signs of slowing down, as Square Enix has said that more story content is coming to the game in 2018. This will include the highly-anticipated DLC for Ardyn, who served as the interesting yet a little under-developed antagonist for the game. Fans want to know more about the character and understand what his whole deal is, and it looks like they’ll be getting just that.
