The Fable series is one that many longtime Xbox gamers hold near and dear to their hearts, as the original game was one of the best that the original Xbox had to offer. The series suffered diminishing returns since then, but it was still a series that many people got excited about. Hearts were broken in 2016 when Microsoft shut down Fable developer Lionhead Studios, but it looks like the series is gearing up for a return with Fable 4.
Eurogamer is reporting that Forza Horizon developer Playground is developing “character-focused, open-world, action-RPG” that sure seems like it is going to be Fable 4. Anonymous sources close to the project informed Eurogamer of its existence, though Microsoft of course declined to comment on the rumor. However, considering Eurogamer’s credentials this is definitely a rumor to keep an eye on.
The last main game in the Fable series to release was Fable 3, which released for Xbox 360 back in 2010. While the game’s gorgeous world and humor were praised, many found fault with the game’s combat, technical issues and lack of interesting moral choices. Even so, the game was well-received overall, making it one of the better games available on the Xbox 360.
We’ll likely have to wait a while until we hear anything about a potential Fable 4, but as of right now it looks like there’s a good chance that something is happening. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
