Developer The Astronauts have announced that their horror adventure game The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be coming to a new platform soon, with the game set to come to Xbox One this month. The game will release on January 19, and will feature full 4K resolution support on Xbox One X.
The updated visuals isn’t the only new perk that fans have to look forward to, as the developers have also added in a new Free Roam mode to the game. The mode allows players to explore Red Creek Valley and witness all of the sights, without having to actually take part in the story. Considering that the game has some impressive visuals, this is one free roam mode that should be well worth checking out.
The following is a breakdown of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter’s key features:
- Explore and interact with the beautiful yet ominous world of Red Creek Valley, which was created with the use of revolutionary photogrammetry technology that allows for nearly photorealistic environments.
- Communicate with the dead and see how they died in order to gather clues that help you piece together the truth behind Ethan’s disappearance — and the fate of his family.
- Experience, in non-linear fashion, a story that combines the pleasures of pulp, private eye, and horror fiction, all of it inspired by writers such as Raymond Chandler, Algernon Blackwood, Stefan Grabinski, and H. P. Lovecraft.
- Conduct the investigation on your own terms and at your own pace. Although there are a few scary bits in the game, players will have no need for sedatives. Our game is less about terror and more about clammy unease.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter originally launched for PC in 2014 before coming to PlayStation 4 in 2015, garnering critical acclaim on both platforms.
