Super Mario Odyssey was easily one of the most highly-anticipated games of the year, with the Switch-exclusive getting tons of positive buzz leading up to its release. The absolutely stellar reviews that the game has received since its launch last week has only increased the anticipation, and it looks like that interest has translated into huge sales early on in the game’s life.
Nintendo’s latest financial briefing has revealed that Super Mario Odyssey has surpassed 2 million copies in just 3 days since the game’s launch, making it an absolutely massive success. We have to keep in mind that these numbers are just for the game’s launch, and seeing as the holiday season is nearly upon us these numbers will likely skyrocket pretty soon.
Nintendo said that “While about 7 million units of Nintendo Switch hardware have been delivered into the hands of our consumers around the world, we estimate that the global sellthrough of Super Mario Odyssey has already exceeded 2 million units in just its first 3 days. The holiday sales season will soon go into full swing, and we plan to make more Nintendo Switch systems available in the market. We will endeavor to further increase the number of consumers who want to purchase Super Mario Odyssey, and eventually we would like the game to be seen as an evergreen title that has longevity in the market beyond this holiday season.”
It looks like Super Mario Odyssey is a game that has absolutely lived up to the hype, with review scores and huge sales to back it up. It goes without question that both the Switch and Odyssey will be hugely in demand this season, making 2017 a great return to form for Nintendo.
