The long-awaited release of the latest 3D Sonic game is upon us, with Sega’s Sonic Forces set to launch next month. While a new Sonic game has already released this year that has many jumping back on the blue hedgehog’s bandwagon, the buzz leading up to Sonic Forces has been much more mixed with people not being entirely sure what to make of it. Well, we have a review score from Famitsu to help clear the fog.
Japanese gaming publication Famitsu gave Sonic Forces a 35/40, which is actually a very solid score from them. For those who are unfamiliar with how the publication scores games, they have four different reviewers play the game and then have them each score it out of 10. In the case of Sonic Forces, they scored it a 9,9,9 and 8.
EDIT: A reader (DevilMayCry898) has informed us that Famitsu actually scored Sonic Mania a 32/40, however, and that game ended up getting rave reviews just about everywhere else. We’ll have to wait and see how the Famitsu score for Sonic Forces compares to the rest of the critics next week.
This will be sure to bring a sigh of relief for fans of the series, as buzz leading up to the game has been mixed. Certain preview events have reported there being multiple technical issues, but it looks like most of those issues just might have been ironed out in time for the game’s launch.
Sonic Mania is the first Sonic game that released this year, though that one was a 2D platformer that was much more a call back to the series’ 90s heyday. That game got rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with the game being praised for its excellent gameplay and level design. It has gone on to become one of the highest reviewed games in the series in well over a decade, ranking up there with the series’ best.
Sonic Forces is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 7. We’ll likely start seeing reviews for the game start to pop up early next week, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
