Nintendo recently revealed the long-awaited Animal Crossing game for mobile devices, which was announced as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. The announcement revealed that the game looks and plays like the other games in the series, though with some obvious refinements to make it work as a free-to-play game.
Since the announcement, it has been revealed that you’ll be taking the role of campsite manager. You’ll be in charge of decorating a campsite, crafting furniture, fishing, bug catching, and interacting with other villagers just as you would in the main series. The only difference here is that the game features Leaf Tickets, which can be purchased with real money to speed up the process of crafting as well as other things. However, they can also be acquired through traditional gameplay.
Honestly, this announcement went a whole lot better than I was expecting, especially considering that the latest animal crossing games that released on consoles were spin-offs. It looks like this game will resemble the main series much more than was originally anticipated, and the fact that it’s free-to-play means that the barrier of entry for a massive audience between iOS and Android users is non-existent. We’ll have to wait and see how easy or difficult it is to earn Leaf Tickets through actual gameplay, but if they get that right then this could be a big success.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp does not have an official release date yet, but is set to launch by the end of November for iOS and Android. If you missed the Nintendo Direct presentation showing this game off, then you can check it out below.
