Microsoft had promised fans earlier this year that backwards compatible support for original Xbox games would be coming to Xbox One this year, and now we know it’s coming very soon. The first 13 games that will be getting the support have been revealed, and the support will go live on October 24.
Besides having the obvious perk of being able to play your old and dusty OG Xbox games on your far less dusty Xbox One, all of the games are enhanced with 1080p resolution, improved frame rates and faster loading times. The following is the complete list of the first 13 backwards compatible games:
- Black (Electronic Arts)
- BloodRayne 2 (Majesco Entertainment)
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge (Microsoft)
- Dead to Rights (Bandai Namco)
- Fuzion Frenzy (Microsoft)
- Grabbed by the Ghoulies (Microsoft)
- Ninja Gaiden Black (Koei Tecmo)
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Ubisoft)
- Psychonauts (Double Fine Productions)
- Red Faction II (THQ Nordic)
- Sid Meier’s Pirates! (2K Games)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Electronic Arts)
- The King of Fighters Neowave (SNK)
There are definitely some solid games on this list that will be great to check out again after all these years, especially considering that they will now have a nice new coat of paint. A video was released that shows Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic running on both an original Xbox and the Xbox One S, and the improvements on display are pretty impressive. The visuals appear much more crisp and vibrant, while also appearing to run more smoothly. You can check it out for yourself below.
