Back in August of this year, Samsung was one of the first companies to buy up all the available Snapdragon 845 chips from Qualcomm. The plan was to fit the all-new Galaxy S9 phone with this type of chip, starting with the very first batch. And, according to rumours, this is exactly what’s going to happen! From what I was able to find out, it seems that all S9 and S9+ phones fitted with the Snapdragon 845 chip are destined for the U.S. market.
All the other phone manufacturers are going to fit their own devices with this new chip as well, but at a later date. For now, there are no more batches available, since Samsung gobbled them all up. Again, Samsung manages to get a head start, unlike its competitors, by moving first and securing the entire production of the Snapdragon 845 chip. It isn’t the first time when Samsung makes such a bold move!
In fact, when the Galaxy S8 was released this year, the history repeated itself. Samsung bought all the Snapdragon 835 chips they could get their hands on at the time. Being left without the needed and newer chips, LG was forced to use the older Snapdragon 821 chips for its G6, while some other manufacturers decided to just postpone or even cancel their own flagship launches, at least until new batches of Snapdragon 835 chips became available.
It is possible that the new Galaxy S9 will be launched one month earlier than usual. Which means that we should expect the new Samsung phone to be available in stores in March of 2018. There will probably be an official announcement on this subject in February, at MWC. So far, these are just rumours and assumptions. We still have to wait until February or March of 2018, to have an official confirmation of the above information!
