Square Enix has been updating Final Fantasy 15 regularly, with the updates running the gamut from bug fixes to entirely new segments of the game. The latest update falls in with the latter, as they have announced a new update that adds a story event to chapter 12.
As for what the story event is, it apparently gives a background on the astrals and delves deeper into some of the characters in the game. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be anything major, but it should be a nice addition to the game overall for those looking for a bit more depth to the story.
Square Enix has taken a much different approach to the development of Final Fantasy 15 compared to any other game in the series, as they have been delivering free and paid DLC at a steady rate for a very long time now. While they made two sequels to Final Fantasy 13, with 15 they are more focused on expanding this game’s world rather than making sequels. This move has definitely been controversial, as the story DLC in general seems like it would have been much better if it had just been included in the base game in the first place.
The company has no plans of stopping the support for Final Fantasy 15 anytime soon, as they recently announced that they will be supporting it through 2018. There are also new versions of the game that are on the horizon, such as the Pocket Edition that will be coming this fall and the long-awaited PC version coming early next year. They are even looking into the possibilities of bringing the game to Nintendo Switch, though that will be challenging considering the console’s inferior hardware.
Final Fantasy 15 is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
