Developer Dontnod has been hard at work on their ambitious new game called Vampyr, but unfortunately the development has hit a bump in the road. The game was originally supposed to launch this November, but now the developer has revealed that the release date has been pushed back to Spring 2018.
This is definitely a major delay, and Dontnod’s reason for it is pretty typical. Ultimately, they just need more time to get the game where it needs to be. They releases the following statement:
“Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.
This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr’s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.
We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience… especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it.”
For those who are unfamiliar with the game, the following is an overview:
“London, 1918. You are newly-turned vampire Dr. Jonathan Reid. As a doctor, you must find a cure to save the city’s flu-ravaged citizens. As a vampire, you are cursed to feed on those you vowed to heal. Will you embrace the monster within? Survive and fight against Vampire hunters, undead Skal, and other monstrosities.
Use your unholy powers to manipulate and delve into the lives of those around you to decide who will be your next victim. Struggle to live with your decisions… your actions will save or doom London.
■ BE THE VAMPYR Fight and manipulate with supernatural abilities
■ FEED TO SURVIVE Be the savior and the stalker
■ SHAPE LONDON A web of interconnected citizens reacts to your decisions”
The developer did not give a new release date for vampyr, as we only know that it is now targeting a release in the Spring of 2018. The game is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
