We learned recently that DOOM 2016 would surprisingly be making its way to Nintendo Switch later this year, being a major third-party game for Nintendo’s new console. While we knew that it wouldn’t be able to match to the versions on the more powerful PS4, Xbox One or PC in terms of visuals, today we’re getting more information regarding where else the game won’t quite match up.
Bethesda has announced that the game’s SnapMap feature will not be included in the Switch version of DOOM, which was essentially the game’s level creator. Users could go in and tinker around with their own levels, and then share them with others online. While it’s definitely a bummer that this feature won’t be included in the Switch version of the game, it’s really something that I and many others can live without. That aspect of DOOM is something that I played around with for maybe 20-30 minutes and then never touched again, with the campaign and multiplayer taking up the majority of my play time.
The good news for Switch owners is that DOOM will be coming with all of the previously-released DLC. However, those who purchase the physical version of the game will only be getting the campaign on the cartridge, with the multiplayer needing to be downloaded separately. Those who purchase the digital version of the game obviously won’t have to worry about this, as it will all be there once the download is complete.
There’s a lot more on the horizon for Bethesda games on Switch, as it was also revealed that Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus will be coming to the console next year. We don’t have much information on those games regarding what may or may not be included, but these will definitely be games well worth getting on Switch. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is also set to come to Switch, with that version of the game launching in November.
