It looks like the beloved adventure game Okami is getting the remaster treatment, as a listing for Okami HD has surfaced recently. The listing appeared on the Korean Game Rating Board, which rates the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A release date was not accompanied with the rating.
However, despite the fact that the rating gives very little information on the game outside of its existence, this actually isn’t the first time that we’ve heard of a remaster for this game being in the works this year. It was reported last month that a remaster for Okami was in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the release window being set for some point in December. It looks like PC fans will be getting in on the action as well, which is unsurprising considering the potential reach on that platform.
Word has it that this latest remaster of Okami will be based off of the PlayStation 3 remaster, which launched for the platform in 2012. The game originally got its start as a PlayStation 2-exclusive in 2006, before getting an excellent port to the Wii in 2008. It has certainly been a long time since Okami has been in the headlines, and it will be cool to be able to play the game on more powerful hardware.
The following is an overview of the game’s plot:
“Once upon a time there was a small village called Kamiki Village, where everyone from the villagers to the animals, lived in peace and happiness. But then one day, the legendary monster Orochi, came back to life and put an evil curse on the entire area. Everything that had a bit of life, disappeared from the face of the earth, and in their place was left a dreadful, barren wasteland.
Orochi’s horrid curse spread all across the land, turning it into a veritable hell on earth, infested with countless monsters roaming the earth. But there was one hope. The majestic, wolf-embodied sun god Amaterasu.
One-hundred years ago, Amaterasu used the godly power of the Celestial Brush, to face Orochi. But their battle consumed them both, causing them to disappear from the world, with Amaterasu losing the thirteen Celestial Brush powers in the process.
Now in the present, Amaterasu stumbles upon a mysterious fairy sprite named Issun, and together they set out on an adventure, as Amaterasu aims to regain the 13 powers of the Celestial brush and defeat Orochi once and for all.”
It’s likely that official information on this new port of Okami will be coming soon, so be sure to stay tuned for that.
