NieR: Automata is easily a game of the year contender in a year that is full of great games already, with the game offering a fantastic action RPG experience from PlatinumGames. If you haven’t checked the game out yet and are interested in doing so, then this week is definitely a great opportunity for you to do that.
Both the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of the game have been discounted this week, though both via different suppliers. The PlayStation 4 version of the game is currently available for $34.99 at GameStop, whereas the PC version of the game is currently available for $38.99 on Steam. These are both excellent prices for a fantastic game, though we recommend that you pick up the PlayStation 4 version. This is not only because of the price, but the PlayStation 4 controller is easily the best way to play the game.
The following is an overview of NieR: Automata:
“Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing a new type of threat: weapons known as “machine lifeforms.” In the face of this insurmountable threat, mankind is driven from Earth and takes refuge on the Moon.
The Council of Humanity organizes a resistance of android soldiers in an effort to take back their planet. To break the deadlock, the Resistance deploys a new unit of android infantry: YoRHa.
In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on. A war that is soon to unveil the long-forgotten truth of this world…”
NieR: Automata is actually the follow-up to the game called NieR, which released in 2010. However, you aren’t required to play the first game in order to get the most out of the second one, as they are standalone stories. Much of the enjoyment that one will get out of NieR: Automata is through its excellent combat system, which was of course designed by PlatinumGames. The game has you taking on enemies with melee and ranged combat often at the same time, and evading the onslaught of enemy attacks is crucial.
It was revealed last month by PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya that NieR: Automata may have potentially saved the company. The company had been going through a rough time prior to the beginning of this year, with the poorly-received Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhatten and Star Fox Zero preceding the cancellation of Scalebound. Ultimately, Kamiya felt that the company might not have had a future if it weren’t for Automata’s success, which he thanked fans dearly for.
