At long last we have the official release date for the next 3D Sonic game, as Sega has announced that Sonic Forces will launch on November 7th. Along with the release date comes the announcement of the Bonus Edition of the game, which comes with some interesting extras for Sega and Atlus fans.
The Bonus Edition is available for a limited time only and will only be available physically, with the price being $39.99. It includes a Sonic Forces controller skin and a Sega / Atlas Pack DLC, which brings 13 in-game outfit items and accessories for everyone to play around with. These will be used for the game’s Hero character, which was previously revealed to be a completely customizable character that is up to the user’s imagination.
There’s a lot riding on Sonic Forces, as 3D Sonic games typically don’t end up turning out all that well. This has especially been the case recently, with the disastrous release of the Sonic Boom games being a new low point for a series with many low points. However, it wasn’t long after that when Sega announced that they intend to return the series to its former glory, which will certainly take a lot of effort on their part. Sonic Forces seems to be taking a lot of tips from Sonic Generations, which is seen by many to be the best 3D Sonic game. However, the big change is that you’ll be able to create your own character, which is a move that was met with a mixed response.
The good news is that Sonic’s name has already been restored significantly already this year, with the 2D Sonic Mania being the highest-reviewed game in the series in over 15 years. That games was praised for its excellent level design and soundtrack, with the game itself doing a fantastic job of channeling what made the original games so great in the first place.
Sonic Forces is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
