We have good news for Dragon Quest fans, as Dragon Quest XI finally has a confirmed release window for areas outside of Japan. The game will be coming to the west at some point in 2018, though we still don’t have a specific release date for the game.
The announcement was made by series creator Yuji Horii, who also revealed that the game’s subtitle is Echoes of an Elusive Age. The protagonist is aiming to discover the mystery surrounding his fate and the supporting cast. Horii said that the game is in the midst of the localization process, though it’s definitely going to be time consuming considering that the game will be available in five languages next year. You can check out the video below.
The video also didn’t mention which platforms the game would release for in the west, but it will likely stick to the 3DS, PlayStation 4 and Switch platforms. The game is set to launch in Japan on 3DS and PlayStation 4 tomorrow, with a Switch release coming later this year.
We recently learned about the decision to not include voice acting in the game, as it’s one of the few long-standing series that still hasn’t incorporated the now common feature. The development team was actually split on the decision of whether or not to include it, but ultimately they decided to keep things the way they were due to time restrictions.
The most recent game in the series to release was Dragon Quest Heroes II, which launched earlier this year on PlayStation 4. That game is a spin-off that utilizes the Dynasty Warriors formula for its core gameplay. That game received generally favorable reviews at launch, with many agreeing that it was a solid hack ‘n’ slash adventure.
