PlayStation 4 has been getting regular system updates that have addressed minor issues, but now the next major one is on the horizon. This one will bring the console’s firmware up to 5.0, which will also bring some big changes with it in the process. Those of you who are willing to test an incomplete version of it have a chance to do just that now.
Sony has announced that they have opened up registrations for beta testing the firmware update 5.0, and you can do so by clicking right here. You have from now until the beginning of August to register, as the beginning of August is around when the beta period will begin. Registrations will be closed as soon as the beta starts, and you must be 18 years or older in order to register.
Sony said that “If you’re part of the program, you’ll receive an email with instructions on downloading the beta version of the next system software. In order to sign up, you’ll need a PS4 with an internet connection, and access to a Master Account. And remember — you can roll back to the previous system software at any time.”
Details on what beta testers can expect to try out with this beta were note revealed, but they did say that they will be back soon with all of the details. They also thank everyone who elects to sign up and help test the latest firmware, especially the returning beta testers. “Your feedback helps us make the system software update even better,” said Sony.
Beta testing these firmware updates has been a great way to ensure that the latest firmware updates for PlayStation 4 launch with as few bugs as possible, so being a beta tester certainly helps makes things easier for everyone. You may run into some issues, but you can always roll back to the previous firmware version if things get out of hand.
