The Danganronpa visual novel series was one of those franchises that pleased many gamers when it was ported to Steam. It attained a cult following in the West that wanted to see the games reach a more accessible platform. But more importantly, several newer fans of the genre and anime style games were introduced to a quality series. People who may have had interest before are now able to play them for themselves. The spinoff to these games was released back in 2014, but only on Sony platforms. But recently fans both old and new rejoiced at the announcement that Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls would also be coming to Steam this year.
Though more importantly, Spike Chunsoft’s official Twitter page only recently revealed detailed information about the port. Ultra Despair Girls releases on June 27th for $29.99. It has been priced the same as its main entry predecessors, Danganronpa 1 & 2. This is simply great timing for anyone new to get into the series, considering the release of the third main game is also on the horizon.
Danganronpa V3 will release on September 26 for PC, PS4 and PS Vita. With 3 weeks until the release of the spinoff and 3 months until the new title drops, fans and newcomers have plenty of time to catch up.
The Danganronpa series is known for blending many stylistic elements to tell its bizarre stories. Horror, mystery, thriller storytelling all cross together with an unmistakably over-the-top anime cast. With more and more visual novels available on Steam, fans of such stories have yet another series to pay attention to.
As a fan of the original games, I’ve kept myself in the dark for both V3 and Ultra Despair Girls. I know next to nothing about gameplay or story changes. But like many others, I’m looking forward to both June 27th and September 26th.
