There are plenty of subscription services out there that offer up some free games, though the one that you don’t hear about as much is Twitch Prime. The service is a subsection of Amazon Prime and regularly offers free games for subscribers to download for a limited time, and now they have revealed their latest game.
This time we have the critically-acclaimed Gone Home, which is an atmospheric adventure game that originally released in 2013. The game is regularly cited as being one of the games that popularized the “walking simulator” genre, and still holds up very well even today. For those who are unfamiliar with the game, the following is a brief synopsis:
“You arrive home after a year abroad. You expect your family to greet you, but the house is empty. Something’s not right. Where is everyone? And what’s happened here? Unravel the mystery for yourself in Gone Home, a story exploration game from The Fullbright Company. Gone Home is an interactive exploration simulator. Interrogate every detail of a seemingly normal house to discover the story of the people who live there. Open any drawer and door. Pick up objects and examine them to discover clues. Uncover the events of one family’s lives by investigating what they’ve left behind.”
Veterans of the BioShock series are responsible for the game, with Gone Home featuring all of the attention to detail and immersive atmosphere that you would expect from that team. However, the big difference here is that there’s no combat or puzzles at all, as the emphasis of the game is entirely on exploration. It’s definitely the type of game that isn’t for everyone, but it truly is a unique experience that should at least be tried.
Those who are members of the service have until June 7th to download Gone Home for free, so be sure to grab it quickly before the offer expires.
