Call of Duty fans who purchased the Legacy or Pro editions of Infinite Warfare last year were treated to a remaster of Modern Warfare, which is perhaps the peak of the Call of Duty series to date. While it was great that fans were able to dive back into that great game, it wasn’t great that the game didn’t get a standalone release and forced those interested to purchase a special edition of Infinite Warfare to get it.
There have been many rumors recently suggesting that that may finally be about to change, and now another one has popped up that again suggests that the standalone release could be coming very soon. Following Gamefly’s rental page for the game suggesting a June 20th release, now a page for the game on Amazon Japan has popped up that suggests the same. This certainly seems like it’s going to happen considering the sources that we have here, as listings for games are almost always legitimate.
It’s worth pointing out that the June 20th release date only applies to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, with the other versions being pegged with a July 20th release date. This is a move that would not be surprising, considering that PlayStation 4 gets all DLC content a month before players on the other platforms do.
This of course needs to be taken with a grain of salt considering that it isn’t an official announcement, but it looks inevitable at this point that a standalone release for Modern Warfare Remastered is happening. This will be a huge sigh of relief for fans who refused to purchase Infinite Warfare, which is a game considered to be one of the worst of the entire series by many.
The Call of Duty series will be making a big change this year, as it ditches its futuristic aspects of the recent installments for a more traditional World War 2 setting featured in the earlier games. Call of Duty: WWII will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 3rd.
