Nintendo has a pretty solid lineup of games for the Switch this year, with some big AAA titles in the pipelines that are sure to sell well. However, they also have some very interesting indie games set to launch this year, and a new one has just been revealed. The game has a very unique concept, as it is an RPG based around the game of golf.
Golf Story is a game where you take control of a character who has been forced to give up everything he holds dear for one final shot at achieving his dream. There’s more to the game than just golf, though, and players will find that there are just as many interesting (and strange) things happening off the course as there are on it.
The following is a breakdown of the game’s features:
- Tee up anywhere! You’ll be surprised by how many problems can be solved by hitting a golf ball at them.
- Explore 8 unique environments, each with their own courses, towns, people and secrets.
- Play through a dramatic story with a diverse cast of characters.
- Upgrade your golfer by completing challenges, solving puzzles and buying new equipment.
- Round out your skill set with long driver tournaments, disc golf, mini golf and wee links. Then go beyond golf with extra challenges like races, mowing, drone flights and geocaching.
I have been completely sold on this game just from the concept alone, as it reminds me a lot of the old portable Mario Golf games. Rather than being just a golf game like the console counterparts, there were actual RPG elements that made the games truly unique. If this game can tap into that at all then it could truly be something special.
A specific release date for Golf Story has not yet been detailed, but it will be launching at some point this Summer exclusively for Nintendo Switch. More information is expected to be coming soon, but in the meantime you can check out the game’s intriguing reveal trailer below.
