Sonic Mania has received some new gameplay footage for fans to check out today, though this time the footage features someone other than Sonic. Knuckles takes the spotlight in the latest video, with the character gliding through Flying Battery Zone Act 1.
The footage shown here is about a minute long, but it gives us a great look at how the character controls. His famous gliding ability is back to make crossing gaps a little easier, but he can also climb up walls to completely bypass certain platforming challenges. This will hopefully go a long way towards making the character stand out from the other characters, making it more enticing to try different characters to make certain segments easier.
The following is a rundown of what Sonic Mania is all about:
“Sonic Mania is the ultimate celebration of past and future, blending Genesis-era Sonic platforming with New Zones, Powerful Bosses, and three Playable Characters, all presented at a gorgeous 60 FPS. In the span of 25 years, Sonic has collected countless rings across various Zones, and Sonic Mania revisits what it was that first made Sonic great, giving old and new fans alike an experience that will leave them smiling.”
The game is certainly shaping up really well, with all of the footage we’ve seen from the game so far looking very promising. The releases in the Sonic series have been pretty poor in recent memory, so it would be great if this game does well and gets the series back on the right track.
While Sonic Mania was originally set to launch this month, it was delayed earlier this year when the developers revealed that they needed more polish time. As a result, the game will now be launching sometime this Summer, though a specific release date has not yet been revealed. Whenever it does launch, it will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
