People who have been playing Black Desert Online have had to play it through its own dedicated launcher for a long time now, though things will be made a little easier in the future. It has been revealed by the developer that the game will be coming to Steam soon, allowing players to just boot the game up straight from the client they’re likely in most of the time anyway.
Black Desert Online will launch on Steam on May 24th, making the wait relatively short. You’ll still have to create an account through the actual game’s website, but you’ll be able to play with everyone on the same servers. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer over to the Steam version if you already have an account, as the Steam version patches directly through Steam. Both versions will be identical, with updates rolling out at the same time.
A price for the Steam version of the game hasn’t been revealed yet, but you will be able to purchase the game’s in-game currency through Steam funds. Achievements won’t be ready for the game’s launch, though there will be support for trading cards right from the beginning.
Black Desert Online originally launched in Korea in 2014, before finally getting a worldwide launch in 2016. Despite the fact that game is currently only available to play on PC, developer Pearl Abyss announced earlier this year that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game are in development. However, they weren’t able to give an idea of when these versions might release.
The game has received plenty of updates since its launch, and those who purchase the game through Steam will be getting all of the updates that have released so far. This includes the most recent Dark Knight class, which was added to the game in April.
