Team Ninja’s Nioh is set to be getting some major DLC soon, with Dragon of the North launching on May 2nd. A new gameplay trailer has been released to get everyone ready for what’s in store, showing about a minute of gameplay in total. You can check it out for yourself at the bottom of this post.
As for what the DLC is all about, it “picks up after William’s valiant victory in restoring peace to Japan. In keeping with the tradition of our inspiration through Japanese history and mythology, the central character for this new chapter is based on Lord Masamune Date, the ruler of the Sendai feudal domain in the Keicho Era (about 400 years ago).” The developer reveals that they feel that Date’s personality and exploits in history will make him a force to be reckoned with in the story.
Going into more detail regarding the character himself, they say he was a figure “who is both brilliant and ruthless. Although he was an exceptional leader; his ambition and lust for power blinded him to all else. He was known for being an impulsive leader who was wildly arrogant of his abilities — believing he was superior to most men, yet at the same time greatly devoted to the his land and subjects.”
The DLC itself will take place in the Oshu region, with Masamune disrupting the peace by secretly gathering spirit stones to bring more mayhem. There will be plenty of new enemies for William to take on, which will be scattered about brand new areas. Players will also have new ways to take down these foes, with new Guardian Spirits, armor, ninja skills, magic and a brand new weapon called the Odachi all being included.
Nioh is available exclusively for PlayStation 4. Check out the gameplay trailer showing off the new DLC below.
