E3 is right around the corner, and along with it are all the most anticipated reveals of the year for gaming. Naturally, it’s time for the developers to start preparing their showcases and getting ready to reveal their latest projects to the world. Last year Bethesda had their first ever showing at the event, wowing the crowds with reveal after reveal of both revamped IP (Quake) and new projects (Prey). This undeniably set the bar for both last year’s E3 and future showings as well. This year it seems like they aim to live up to that expectation.
Invites to the showcase started cropping up all over the place recently, showing off a clever piece of art entitled “Bethesdaland.” This was a Disneyland-style park with cute little nods to other major Bethesda IP such as Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Doom. But, what is most interesting, are the two sections of the map that are walled off with little signs reading “Pardon our dust” and “Coming soon.”
Now we know that Bethesda has already talked about several new projects, but have been very stingy with the details. In an interview with Glixel Todd Howard spoke briefly about them, saying “We’ve got a good number of projects on the go…We have two larger projects that are more classically the scale of what we do, but even bigger…I can’t talk a lot about them, but I can say that they’re bigger than anything we’ve ever done.” That quote, coupled with the picture above, certainly hints at a big reveal this E3 of not one, but both of the big console projects talked about in the interview.
E3 begins June 13th, but the Bethesda showcase is set to go live two days before on the 11th and along with it the answers to the questions we’ve been asking – one way or another.
