Super Mario Run has received a big update on iOS and Android, which adds some notable things to both versions of the game. The 2.1 update brings things like new buildings, Game Center achievements and more, which will be detailed below.
First up is the increase in the number of Toads that can live in your your kingdom, which is substantial. While the game previously let you house 9,999 Toads, after the update you can now house 99,999 of them. This will go a long way in making sure that no Toad gets left behind, giving each one of them a place to call home.
New buildings have also been added to the kingdom editor, allowing you to flex your design muscles even more. These include the likes of an 8-bit Bowser Statue, Bullet Bill Statue, Bob-omb Statue, and more. The patch notes say that getting them all will be a challenge for players of every skill level. However, an in-game purchase is required to get certain Toad colors, which are required to unlock all of the buildings.
Player icons have also received a big improvement, as players can now display their Mii character from Miitomo. For all of you Miitomo players out there, this will likely be a cool addition for you to check out. Other additions from the update are small things like being able to find friends from your Nintendo Account and Game Center achievements being implemented. “Other changes and improvements” were also noted in the patch notes, but without any further details regarding what they were.
Super Mario Run costs $9.99 to unlock the full experience on iOS and Android, but the first handful of levels can be played completely free. The game has been a very big success for Nintendo so far, being one of the most-downloaded mobile games of all time. However, the game’s premium price has been controversial, with not nearly as many people actually purchasing the full game as there were people who just downloaded the free version.
