We had been hearing rumors for months now regarding the direction that the next entry in the Call of Duty series might be taking. While there were some conflicting reports, most seemed to agree that the next game in the series will be taking things back to World War II. Today the rumors have been made official.
Publisher Activision has released a new image for the next Call of Duty game, claiming that the worldwide reveal will be taking place on April 26th at 10am PDT/ 1pm EDT. The image shows the title Call of Duty: WWII at the top, though it remains to be seen if this is teasing the setting or the actual title. However, considering the font of the text, it certainly seems like it could end up being the official title.
Call Of Duty Returns To Its Roots
While we’re still waiting on official information on the game, we’ve known for a while now that it will be developed by Sledgehammer Games. They were previously responsible for developing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which was notable for kicking off the series’ shift into a futuristic setting. Despite being well-received at the time, as time goes on many have seen the series’ shift to a futuristic setting as a bad move. As a result, fans have been clamoring for a return to the series’ roots, and it looks like we’ll be getting just that later this year.
Next week is when we’ll likely be getting a trailer for the game, and hopefully some gameplay to go along with it. It’s possible that they could end up holding some of the information back, however, and saving it for this year’s E3. Regardless of how much information is revealed, this will still bring a sigh of relief to fans of the series who had been underwhelmed by the games in recent years.
Be sure to check back on April 26th for the worldwide reveal of the next entry in the Call of Duty series.
