Cross Counter TV is a well known distributor of fighting game-related entertainment. They have conducted interviews and training sessions with prominent fighting game members, but are best known for their weekly web series, “The Excellent Adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross.” It’s a series that has been going for 7 years and has over 100 episodes. Titular members/fighting game celebrities Ryan “gootecks” Guiterrez and Mike “Don’t Call Me Mike “Mike Ross” Ross” Ross, aka Miguel Rossington the 4th, aka Mike Ross, play fighting game matches online.
The goal of any given episode is entertainment, education on fighting game meta, and using the most high level (and not so high level) tactics in matches. Think of something along the lines of a netplay-based “let’s play.” They’re best known for playing Ultra Street Fighter IV and currently Street Fighter V, but have also done sets in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and Mortal Kombat X.
Today, an announcement was made that Cross Counter has just released episode #1 of a new series called “The Reads with Scar & Toph” starring Bobby “Scar” Scarnewman and Kris “Toph” Aldenderfer, the duo behind the Super Smash Bros. Melee podcast “Melee It On Me.” The Reads is designed to be the SSBM counterpart of the Excellent Adventures series.
Bobby Scar himself has appeared on Excellent Adventures and the podcast Capcom Pro Talk, once hosted by Mike Ross. Mike Ross was also a guest on Melee It On Me, and the two have spoken during these sessions about establishing a meeting ground between the Smash Bros. community and the more “traditional” FGC, or fighting game community. Cross Counter releasing their first ever Smash-related content could be the first big step in achieving such a goal.
The new episode is available now for early-bird subscribers, and will be released on their YouTube channel soon.
