Indie developer Enigami’s cartoony action RPG Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game launched earlier today for the price of $29.99.
In Shiness, players take control of Chado and a group of four companions and set out to help end a power struggle involving several kingdoms. Chado hopes to be able to do this with the help of Shiness, a spirit that he alone can see. As players explore the world and attempt to end the power struggle, they will come across various obstacles that can be overcome using each character’s skills in a manner similar to that of Pokemon’s HMs. One might be strong enough to crush a rock while another can telekinetically activate various mechanisms. When players encounter enemies, they will do battle using a dynamic combat system that makes use of various fighting game mechanics. Depending on the character, players will be able to deal damage using either physical attacks or magic. Both of these, which double as skill types, can be developed in order to unlock new spells and talents.
Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom was funded by a Kickstarter campaign back in Summer 2014. The Kickstarter successfully raised $139,865 and the original first alpha version was made available on November 26, 2014. The first beta version was later released on July 9, 2015, several months after the initial target release window of Q1 2015. Somewhere along the way, the game also picked up a publisher, Focus Home Interactive.
The game is available now on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Microsoft Store for $29.99. Interestingly, there is a free day one DLC pack that allows players to replace the game’s English voice acting with voice acting spoken in the game world’s own language, Maherian. It’s definitely a novelty, but it is rather interesting to see that the in-game language was developed to a point that such DLC is possible in the first place.
