Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope will be getting an update later this month called Valtos, and now Croteam VR and Devolver Digital have announced the release date. The new content will be coming to the game on April 26th, with it currently being in the internal testing phases. It’s set to bring players to the new planet called Valtos, which brings four new locations, three new weapons, new enemies and a new boss.
The VR version of Serious Sam’s sole purpose is to make you truly feel what it’s like to be the titular character, as you go on an adventure that’s based on Sam’s log files from his time as captain of the Battlecruiser Saratoga. It has all of the aspects that fans of the series would want, with tons of guns at your disposal to take down the tons of enemies coming at you. To make matters even better, the game also features Sam’s original voice actor, John J. Dick. You can’t have a Serious Sam game without those one-liners, and they’re hear in all their glory.
However, one thing you need to keep in mind if you decide to jump on board is that the game is still in its Early Access phase, meaning that it is unfinished. The developers are working on it regularly with updates that bring bug fixes and new features, but a full launch of the game has not yet been revealed. It launched into its Early Access phase in October of last year, and is currently available on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
If you’ve never heard of Serious Sam, it’s a first-person shooter series that originally got its start back in the early 2000s on PC with Serious Sam: The First Encounter. The games have been regularly coming out since then, both in the main series and in the form of spin-offs. The last main entry in the series was 2011’s Serious Sam 3: BFE, with Serious Sam 4 being in development.
