During the latest Nintendo Direct the release date for the Switch’s Arms was revealed, and its release is on the horizon. The motion-controlled fighter will be coming to Nintendo’s new console on June 18th, and we also learned plenty of new information about the game to get excited about in the meantime.
First of all, we got more information on the Arms themselves, which are the gloves that the game’s characters wear to give them unique punching abilities. This aspect of the game will allow for some customization on the players part, with these gloves altering trajectory, power and more to suit your play style. There are even some elemental effects that come when powered up, such as electricity, fire and explosions. These can be used by any of the game’s characters, allowing you to have your favorite character and then tweak their style any way you want.
Speaking of characters, the announcement also revealed a brand new character called Min Min. Her theme is ramen, featuring noodle arms that stretch out and bend just like the arms of the other characters in the game. The video revealed that she has a unique ability to be able to kick oncoming attacks away when she air dodges with the correct timing, opening up a new window for her to attack.
Along with all of this was the announcement of a new Switch Joycon themed after the game, which is neon yellow and comes with a matching joycon strap. A battery life extender will also be releasing alongside the game for the joycons, as Nintendo is probably well aware that doing all that swinging with the joycons is likely to drain the battery quickly. Pricing details were not revealed during the presentation, but more information on that is likely coming soon.
Arms launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on June 18th, bringing another much-needed title to the game’s relatively light game roster. You can check out the game in action through the recent Nintendo Direct footage that is linked below.
