It has been a long time coming, but today Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 finally joins the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. Black Ops 2 has easily been one of the most highly-requested games to be added to the list since the backwards compatibility program started, with fans constantly questioning Xbox regarding when it would finally get support.
Well, today Larry Hyrb was finally able to make the announcement that everyone was waiting for, saying on Twitter that “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today and is on sale in the Spring Sale.” The final part of that statement will be good news for any fans out there who may not have owned the game originally, allowing them to dive into the Xbox One backward compatible version at a reduced price. Fans can look forward to a 50% discount off the game’s original price, bringing the price down to $24.99.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 originally launched in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC, marking the second part of what would become a Black Ops trilogy. The game was very well-received by critics and fans alike, with the game’s story being praised along with the gameplay. Black Ops 3 didn’t manage to reach the same heights as its predecessor did, with many agreeing that its story was a low point for the series. However, that game’s multiplayer was one of the series’ best, and is one that is still played regularly to this day.
The last installment in the Call of Duty series was Infinite Warfare, which launched last year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game was developed by Infinity Ward and was notable for taking the game completely into outer space, though it was a move that fans weren’t too fond of. As a result, there are several rumors suggesting that developer Sledgehammer Games will be taking the series back to its roots for this year’s installment, with many leaks suggesting that the game will be set during World War 2.
