“Tally ho” brand new action platformer “Wells” has just made it’s way onto Steam Greenlight and it looks “spiffing“! Wells has been lovingly crafted by the Brazilian developers at “Tower Up Studios” and is a 3D steampunk sidescroller, that harkens back to those wonderful Contra glory days!
As a lone man in a suitably tremendous top hat, the game places you in a dystopian London style city and pits you against “hordes of enemies, explosions and giant bosses“. The goal of this endeavour is to escape unharmed using only your weapons and your wits, hopefully in the process reviving the muscle memory from the “Metal Slug” years. There are a variety of weapons on offer all with unlimited ammo and a cooldown timer for reloads, not only that but I’m also fairly certain I spied a blunderbuss somewhere in the trailer! We can also expect vehicle sections to be a blast, they look fantastic! After all, Who could resist ploughing through robots on a steam powered harley, with the the wind in your cybernetic hair?
Wells really screams style, it has a wonderful 2.5D look about it that brings its extremely colourful and detailed backgrounds to life. It’s all very bombastic and a little outrageous, which is never really the tone in other games portraying a dystopian world. For many, Wells really will scratch an itch, it follows in the same vein as “Shovel Knight” which was also critically lauded for it’s elegantly simple, beautifully nostalgic gameplay and art direction. Without a doubt this is one Steam Greenlight campaign that we’ll see on the store front soon enough.
If you fancy curling up on a pillow of nostalgia to reminisce about the old days, take a look at “Wells” on Steam Greenlight at www.steamcommunity.com!
