Sony has made a lot of great announcements at this year’s E3, so for many it might be hard to pick a favorite. For me it was no problem at all—Spider-Man PS4. A little bit ago nerdleaks brought up a rumor surrounding a possible PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man game. Over time the rumors grew, convincing many that not only would we be seeing a new Spider-Man game, but that it was also in development over at Sucker Punch. At the PlayStation E3 conference Sony shed light on these rumors by revealing the first trailer for the new PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game currently in the works over at, not Sucker Punch, but Insomniac Games.
The trailer opens with a voice-over from the Webhead himself immediately offering a sigh of relief for those fans who have been displeased with some of Spider-Man’s voice actors in the past. The rest of the trailer is filled with action shots of Spider-Man being, well… Spider-Man. The footage seems to be a mix of pre-rendered cutscenes, scripted events, and possibly a few snippets of gameplay, but honestly it’s a bit difficult to tell. Either way the trailer shows Spider-Man pulling off moves that are more impressive than anything we have seen from his previous outings. As an additional note, comic fans might notice that the thugs shown throughout the trailer are the henchmen of non-other than Martin Li, aka Mr. Negative.
While the conference offered up very few details, Brett Molina from USA TODAY had a chance to speak with Insomniac CEO Ted Price about the new game. “This is a more seasoned Peter Parker, one who has gained more mastery of fighting crime in New York City,” Price had to say of this incarnation of Spider-Man. This tells that the in game Spider-Man is not based on Tom Holland’s character from the MCU. That means this game won’t have to suffer from the tie-in restrictions that had been placed on the last two Spider-Man games. It’s possible that those over at Marvel have learned some lessons from the success of Rocksteady’s Arkham series. Could this be the game where fans get to “be the Spider-Man”?
