The time to say goodbye has come: After almost four years in development, Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey will see its final episode, titled “Redux,” released on June 17. What started 17 years ago as a story of April Ryan amid two worlds – one of magic, one of science – has become a cult classic gem of the adventure genre, delivering in the course of three games an emotional experience akin to those evoked by the finest movies and books. What I’m saying is, the plethora of tears were shed, and even more are poised to come as long-time fans and newcomers alike get ready to bid farewell to all the beloved characters they’ve embarked with upon this longest journey. Here’s the spoiler-free teaser that accompanied the announcement.
While the trailer does say, “On June 17th, The Longest Journey ends,” the fans of the series need not abandon all hope just yet. Back in 2013, during the Kickstarter campaign, one of the stretch goals – one that the project failed to reach – was “The Longest Journey Home,” the direct 2D point-and-click successor to the original game, released in 1999. What Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey saga, promised at the time was that the team would begin working on the next installment before wrapping up Dreamfall Chapters. Since the necessary funds were not secured, the game was put on hold. What now? In the words of Tørnquist,
Funcom owns the TLJ/Dreamfall saga, so it’s really up to them what happens next. https://t.co/zvsAdQL86W

In the meantime, the entire Longest Journey up to now is available on GOG with a 67% discount. If there was ever a time to dive in, it’s now. And may the Balance be with you.
