“As a little girl, I always dreamed about being a singer and sharing my love of music with the world,” Pink said in a statement. “Years later, to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award is hard to fathom! I feel so honored to join the ranks of music idols like Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder. It’s a true ‘pinch me’ moment and I feel humbled and blessed.”
Pink last performed on the Billboard Music Awards stage in 2016 and has racked up 33 entries, 15 top 10s and four No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as eight top 10 albums on the Billboard 200. She’s won six Billboard Music Awards over the course of her career.
Pink is set to receive the Icon Award honor as she releases her new album of mostly live recordings, All I Know So Far, on May 7 as well as a documentary film of the same name, taking viewers behind the scenes of her Beautiful Trauma tour, on Amazon Prime on May 21.
The Billboard Music Awards announced its 2021 finalists last week, with The Weeknd leading as a finalist in 16 categories.
Other top finalists with multiple mentions include DaBaby with 11; Pop Smoke with 10; Gabby Barrett with nine; and Bad Bunny, Chris Brown, Juice WRLD and Megan Thee Stallion with seven apiece.
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards is set to air live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on NBC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Sunday, May 23.
This year’s awards are based on a chart period of March 21, 2020 to April 3, 2021. Finalists and winners are based on fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data. Fan-voted categories include top social artist and top collaboration.
(The Billboard Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions, a division of MRC, which is a co-owner of The Hollywood Reporter through a joint venture with Penske Media titled P-MRC.)
